Dr. Ammar Safar is an American Board Certified Ophthalmologist with extensive experience in Retina disorders and Vitreo-Retinal surgery. For over 10 years, he served as the Director of Retina surgery at Jones Eye Institute at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in the U.S.A. Dr. Safar undertook his medical training at Aleppo University School of Medicine in Syria, before moving to the United States for post-graduate training. He specialized in Ophthalmology at the Center for Sight, Georgetown University Medical Center, where he also served as a chief resident. He then acquired additional 2-year fellowship training in Retinal Diseases & Surgery at the University Of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.In addition to his medical role, he has also taught, researched and published extensively and also led clinical trials as well as participated in NIH funded multi-center clinical trials. He holds a number of academic affiliations and his numerous awards including a one million dollar endowed Chairmanship received in April 2009. His clinical interests include Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-related Macular Degeneration, Retinal Detachments, Retinal Vascular occlusions and anterior segment surgery.
